ELECTROLYSIS PROCESS:

2 Cl- → Cl2 + 2 e-
Cathode: Hydrogen and Hydroxyl ions evolve. These Hydroxyl ions react with Sodium atoms and form Sodium Hydroxide
2 H2O + 2 e- → 2 OH- + H2↑
These Chlorine and Sodium Hydroxide react to give Sodium Hypo Chlorite.
Thus, the overall reaction is:
2 NaOH + Cl2 → NaClO + NaCl + H2O
